How to Report Civic Issues in Mumbai — BMC 1916 Guide
Call BMC on 1916 (toll-free, 24x7) for urgent issues. WhatsApp 8999228999 for pothole quickfix or 8169681697 for garbage. Use MajhaWard to report anonymously and map issues to your ward representatives.
- Is MajhaWard a government app? No. It is an independent, citizen-built platform. For official complaints, use BMC 1916 or the MyBMC portal.
- Do I need to log in or share my identity? No. Reporting is completely anonymous. No login, no phone number, no email required.
- How does the app know my ward? When you take a photo, the app requests your GPS location and matches it against BMC's 227 electoral ward boundaries to identify your ward and representatives.
- Will my complaint reach BMC? MajhaWard is a public visibility platform, not a direct complaint channel to BMC. Use the escalation buttons on each report to file directly with BMC Pothole QuickFix (WhatsApp: 8999228999), BMC garbage helpline (WhatsApp: 8169681697, or call 1916), or CPGRAMS for other issues.
- Can I report from outside Mumbai? The app is designed for Mumbai's 227 wards. GPS locations outside BMC limits won't map to a ward. Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Mira-Bhayandar are coming soon.
- What happens after I report? Your report appears on the public map and feed. Other citizens nearby can confirm it by tapping "I've seen it too." Reports stay active based on community engagement.
- Can someone trace my report back to me? No. Reports carry only the photo, GPS coordinates, and issue type. No user identity is stored or transmitted.
- Is the data public? Yes. All reports, locations, and ward mappings are publicly visible on the platform.
